June 23rd is the 174th day of 2021. There are 191 days remaining until the end of the year.


No new positive COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday by Chatham-Kent Public Health.

There was one recovery, the total active case count locally is down to 6.

There were 296 positive cases across Ontario Tuesday. A data cleanup reveals approximately 80 cases are from 2020.


C-K’s outdoor pools will reopen on July 2nd.

The pool operations will have protocols in place to comply with Ontario’s COVID-19 regulations and local precautions.

Due to reduced capacity, pre-registration is required for all swims. Register online here or by calling 519-360-1988. There will be no costs to swim.

You can register exactly one week prior to each swim. For example, if a swim is on a Tuesday at 11am, you can register the prior Tuesday at 11am.

Betting on single games of football, hockey and other sports is about to become legal in Canada.

The Senate has approved Bill C-218, a private member’s bill that amends Criminal Code provisions around gambling on single sports games — currently illegal except for horse racing.

The upper chamber approved the bill yesterday. It now awaits royal assent to become law. All four of Canada’s major parties support the bill.

Provinces are set to capitalize on the new revenue streams. Large foreign sites such as Bet365 and Bodog garner more than $4 billion from Canadian bettors each year, according to the Canadian Gaming Association.


The mice plague in parts of Australia continues.

Mice have now forced a prison to evacuate at least 420 inmates and 200 staff. The mouse infestation at the Wellington Correctional Centre broke down parts of the prison building’s infrastructure, damaging internal wiring and ceiling panels.

Parts of Australia have been plagued by mice since last August. Since then, rodents have ravaged fields and infested homes, causing millions of dollars of damage to crops and machinery.

The snake population is now on the rise as well with so many mice to snack on.


Canada’s Got Talent is officially returning to Canadian TV.

The talent show, launched by Simon Cowell, is set to air on CityTV and production is expected to kick off this fall.

The casting call is open to receiving applications from Canadians of “ANY age” with “ANY talent.”
