Today is Grimace’s birthday! He’s turning 54.
We all know and love the big purple Grimace, but what is he exactly? He is from Grimace Island and comes from a spectacularly huge family, which includes his Grandma Winky, aunts Millie and Tillie and, of course, Uncle O’Grimacey, who was once the Shamrock Shake’s mascot. Through Grimace lore it is believed that he is a taste bud, but McDonald’s has never confirmed that specifically, only saying, “He is an enormous taste bud, but a taste bud nonetheless.”
But how did Grimace come to be?! The internet has the answer, apparantly he started hanging around the fast food joint because he was a milkshake thief. Yep, Grimace started out as a bad guy. But eventually he turned into a good guy and became friends with Ronald, Mayor McCheese and all of the other good guys.
In 2023 McDonald’s celebrated his birthday by introducing the Grimace Shake. It was a purple, vanilla, and berry-flavored milkshake – but no mention of it returning this year.
