The results are in, and Chatham-Kent has elected a new Mayor: former Councillor Michael Bondy.
Bondy received 43.4% of the vote to defeat incumbent Darrin Canniff.
There’ll be plenty of new faces oncouncil, with voters deciding who will represent the municipality’s eight wards.
In Ward 1, Mark Authier and Melissa Harrigan were elected, while Anthony Ceccacci and Albert Pilbeam won in Ward 2. Emery Huszka took Ward 3 by a wide margin, while Rhonda Jubenville narrowly held on to her seat in Ward 4, finishing ahead of John Cummings by just 149 votes.
Wallaceburg’s Ward 5 elected Jim Blake and Bill Wolsing. Alysson Storey and Brian Machado won in Ward 6, Steve Kenney and Amy Finn in Ward 7, and Brock McGregor and Conor Allin will return to represent the new Ward 8.
Chatham-Kent’s neighbours also voted for change.
Drew Dilkens is out in Windsor, Fred Francis ending his bid for a fourth term as mayor.
For the first time in 38 years, Sarnia has a new mayor. Carrie McEachran defeated incumbent Mike Bradley, to become the city’s first woman mayor.
London voters re-elected incumbent mayor Josh Morgan with over 45% of the vote.
Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl 61 Halftime Show.
The NFL, Apple Music and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation made the announcement Monday night. There was a quick reveal video shown last night during Monday Night Football. A close up of Jay-Z, and as the camera pulls back, you see him surrounded by goats.
The show is set for February 14th at SoFi Stadium. Jay-Z has helped produce the Super Bowl’s musical entertainment since 2019, when Roc Nation partnered with the NFL. The 25-time Grammy winner was initially reluctant to perform himself, but says the opportunity is a dream come true after 30 years in music.
Dictionary.com has released their Word of the Year: maxxing.
It’s internet slang for maximizing something or taking it to the extreme. That includes “looks-maxxing” to improve your appearance, “sleepmaxxing” to get the best possible night’s sleep, and even “pheromone-maxxing,” which involves skipping showers in hopes of attracting someone through natural body scents.
Basically, if you’re trying to optimize something, you’re probably maxxing it.
Dictionary.com’s honourable mentions for Word of the Year: “affordability,” “data center,” “odyssey,” and “unc.”
Be careful if you’ve got pumpkins to carve, nearly half of all pumpkin related knife injuries will happen this week.
In the U.S. alone, there are about 2,000 emergency room visits per year related to pumpkin-carving accidents, and they’re pretty much all in the month of October. That number only includes the people who actually go to the hospital – so the total tally of pumpkin-carving injuries is much higher. The majority of those injuries are in the second half of the month.
The study also found your thumb and index finger are at the highest risk, those two digits are the prime targets. Roughly 60% of carving-related cuts involve one of them – or if you’re a real overachiever, both.
