June 17th is the 168th day of 2021. There are 197 days remaining until the end of the year.


Two new positive COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday by Chatham-Kent Public Health.

There was 1 recoveries, the total active cases is at 7 locally.

There were 384 positive cases across Ontario Wednesday. The province is reporting a test positivity rate of 1.5%, down from 2% one week ago. It is the lowest positivity rate reported since October 3rd.

Ontario’s active case count has dropped below 5,000 for the first time since October 1st.


There is a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for first and second doses of Moderna today in Ridgetown.

The clinic starts at 9am at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in Wilson Hall (120 Main St.)

Walk-in appointments will be accepted, but you are encouraged to book an appointment by calling 519-354-0070 (ext. 614) or going to GetYourShotCK.ca.

The clinic will accept individuals for their first dose or second dose of Moderna as long as they meet the provincial eligibility for the second dose interval. Individuals seeking a second dose should call to book an appointment in advance to confirm they meet the provincial eligibility.


A new area code is coming to southern Ontario this Fall.

Starting on October 16th, the area code 742 will be gradually introduced to places in the province currently being served by area codes 289, 365, and 905.

The 742 area code will only be used once there is no longer sufficient supply of the existing area codes.

The first two area codes ever to be used in southern Ontario are 416 and 613, which were introduced in 1947. The 519 area code was introduced in 1953, 226 in 2006.


Earlier this week Canada’s Wonderland announced it will reopen to the public on July 7th, under the province’s Step 2 of the reopening plan.

Protocols will be place for visitors. Reservations will need to be made to visit this Summer.

Bookings will open at 9am this morning on Canada’s Wonderland website or mobile app.


7-Eleven is dropping five new Big Gulp flavours.
