Chatham-Kent is still under a Special Air Quality Statement due to the wildfires burning in Quebec and northeastern Ontario.
Environment Canada says the air quality can change from hour to hour and residents should do what they can to reduce their exposure. People with lung or heart disease, older adults, and young children are at a higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.
Canada just surpassed 4 million hectares burned in wildfires so far this year. For comparison, last year only 28 thousand hectares had burned by June 7th. That’s an increase of about 14400%.
The Toronto Blue Jays closed the dome on Rogers Centre for their game last night due to the air quality issues. They have home games for the rest of the week, and it’s expected that the roof will remain closed.
The Toronto Zoo has modifyied its hours for today, opening 9:30-3 and limiting access to the outdoors for some animals.

The Bank of Canada announced .25% interest rate hike Wednesday.
The key interest rate now sits at 4.75%, the highest it’s been since 2001. It’s the first interest rate increase since January.
The rate hike will be hit Canadian homeowners who have variable-rate mortgages or those set to renew their fixed terms.
While some variable-rate mortgage holders will immediately see their monthly payments increase in line with the rate decision, those with fixed payments could see the amortization of their loan extend once more.

Tim Hortons is launching a credit card.
Tims Financial is a new division of Tim Hortons that will offer a no-annual-fee Mastercard. The card will be launched in the coming months, but if you’re interested you can sign up for a waitlist TimsFinancial.ca
Users will be able to earn Tims Rewards Points on most purchases, including on many gas, grocery and transit purchases, and extra points at Tim Hortons restaurants.
There were two winning Lotto Max tickets on Tuesdays draw.
The ticket holders will split the $70 million jackpot. One was sold in British Columbia, the other in Windsor.
The jackpot for Friday’s draw will be an estimated $22 million.
Tickets are available online or in store until 10:30pm on draw nights.
